When This Medicine Should Not Be Used
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to hydrocortisone or recent colostomy surgery.
How to Use This Medicine
Enema
- Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to use and how often. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.
- This medicine comes with patient instructions. Read and follow these instructions carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
- Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.
- Shake the bottle well before use.
- Remove the cover from the applicator tip of the bottle.
- Lie on your left side with your left leg straight or slightly bent, and your right knee bent upward. Insert the applicator tip into your rectum about an inch. Gently squeeze the bottom of the bottle to release the enema.
- Remain lying down for about 30 minutes, so that the fluid moves throughout the left colon. After using the medicine, remove the applicator from the rectum and throw away.
- If you have any questions about this medicine, call your doctor or pharmacist.
If a dose is missed:
- If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to use the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
How to Store and Dispose of This Medicine
- Store at room temperature, away from heat and direct light.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- You should not use other rectal medicines while using this medicine without first checking with your doctor.
- Check with your doctor before you receive any vaccines while using this medicine.
Warnings While Using This Medicine
- Talk with your doctor before using if you are pregnant, have active ulcers, diverticulitis, kidney disease, high blood pressure, or an infection.
- You should not use this medicine for other rectal problems without first checking with your doctor.
- If you are exposed to chickenpox or measles while using this medicine, tell your doctor as soon as possible.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Severe rectal pain or bleeding
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Rectal irritation or burning
If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor
