Vivek Kak, MD
Program Director of Internal Medicine

The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Allegiance Health was recently accredited by the ACGME and had its first class of residents start in July.

Allegiance Health is a community-owned and locally-governed health system located in Jackson, Mich., and is currently negotiating an affiliation agreement with the University of Michigan Health System. Allegiance Health supports a 480-bed system with more than 400 physicians and 3,700 staff members that is the only hospital within Jackson County.

Hospital services include a new cancer center; a new specialized cardiac unit; medical surgical services; orthopedic and joint replacement; obstetrics & gynecology; a special care nursery; pediatrics; spine, stroke and neurology; prevention and community health; and behavioral health services. Each year the health system admits more than 20,000 patients to its acute care hospital, admits more than 350 patients to its long-term acute care hospital, and serves more than 100,000 patients through its emergency care facilities.

Applications will only be accepted through ERAS any time from September 15 - October 31.  Please note that the majority of Internal Medicine interviews are conducted from October through December.

If selected for an interview, you will be contacted personally by phone, or through the ERAS processing system. In some cases, to accommodate travel schedules, interviews may be arranged before all letters of recommendation are received. However, only completed applications will receive final consideration. See our interview schedule.

If you are a smoker, it’s important for you to understand that smoking slows recovery and increases the risk of problems. Several weeks prior to surgery, talk with your health care provider if you need help quitting.
