Cardiac surgery

Surgery: Open HeartAllegiance Health has provided advanced medical cardiac care for many years. With the opening of our new Heart and Vascular Center in February 2008, we now compliment this medical care with some of the highest quality surgical care available in Michigan. Partnering with cardiac surgeons from the University of Michigan, patients are now able to receive procedures such as heart valve and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

General surgery

Allegiance Health has a long history of having top-quality general surgeons on its staff. These surgeons perform surgery on a variety of conditions involving the breast, endocrine system (e.g. pituitary and thyroid glands), colon, liver, and pancreas.

Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery

Allegiance maxillofacial and oral surgeons, who traditionally have dentistry training, specialize in treating surgery involving the mouth, jaw, face, skull and associate structures.

Neurosurgery

Surgery of the nervous system, including the brain and spine, is the focus of our excellent neurosurgeons. They will treat conditions such as brain and spine tumors, spinal stenosis, spinal disc herniation, cerebral aneurysms, and epilepsy.

Vascular surgery

Vascular surgeons at Allegiance Health diagnose and treat diseased or damaged arteries and veins. Our vascular surgeons partner with other experts such as cardiologists, neurologists and radiologists to bring the most appropriate care to our patients. Vascular surgeons treat conditions such as varicose veins, diseased limbs caused by complications from diabetes, and abdominal aneurysm.

Obstetrical and gynecological surgery

Obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/Gyn) use surgery to treat certain conditions in women, including gynecologic cancer. Several Allegiance OB/Gyns now use the da Vinci Surgical System to perform these surgeries, resulting in less pain, less blood loss, few complications, less scarring, shorter hospital stay and a faster return to normal daily activities.

Orthopaedic surgery

Allegiance Health excels at surgery of the skeletal system, including hip and knee replacements. Patients who have received their joint replacements in our Joint Camp have received excellent clinical results and a great overall experience. In fact, 90 percent of patients receiving care in the Joint Camp have said they would recommend the service to their family or friends. In addition, Allegiance has physicians on staff who specialize in surgery of the hand, wrist (including carpal tunnel syndrome), foot and ankle.

Plastic and reconstructive surgery

Allegiance Health plastic and reconstructive surgeons diagnose and treat congenital (from birth) abnormalities, as well as those acquired other ways, such as an accident. These surgeons also perform surgery on patients who desire elective surgery for cosmetic purposes. As examples, our surgeons treat conditions ranging from breast augmentation and reduction to cleft palate reconstruction.

Thoracic surgery

Allegiance thoracic surgeons treat diseases affecting organs inside the thorax (chest), excluding the heart. For example, they will care for patients needing treatment for their lungs, chest wall, esophagus and diaphragm, including removing of cancer in these areas.

Urologic surgery

Allegiance urologists have performed surgery to treat enlarged and cancerous prostates for quite some time. However, in the last year, these surgeons started performing these prostate surgeries using the da Vinci Surgical System. This system has the benefit to the patient of less surgical bleeding, faster recovery time, less pain and less tissue damage and scarring.
