Allegiance Health Cancer Center Capital Campaign Exceeds Million Dollar Challenge

Jackson, Mich. — Allegiance Health recently concluded its Healing • Hope • Home Cancer Center capital campaign, which launched in November 2010. According to William Kiel, vice president of Development for the Allegiance Health Foundation, the campaign received a $1 million pledge—contingent upon other community members matching the gift. To date, the Foundation has received more than $1,028,200 toward this match, exceeding expectations. 

Malcolm Trimble, MD, medical director Allegiance Medical Oncology said, “The redesign of our Cancer Center will allow Allegiance Health to serve a rapidly growing number of cancer patients with advanced technology and clinical excellence. Our goal is to provide the highest-quality, most comprehensive cancer care in south central Michigan.”

Phase I of construction on the new Allegiance Cancer Center is currently underway on the 3rd Floor of the Allegiance Professional Building, adjacent to the hospital. Phase I is scheduled to be completed this Fall. Phase II will soon follow and is expected to be completed by Spring 2012.

The redesigned Cancer Center will be both technologically advanced and provide a healing environment with calming decorative art, increased natural lighting and soft music to soothe both patients and their families who are facing a stressful and vulnerable time. The expansion will also increase privacy and consolidate cancer-related treatments and services in a single location, which will greatly increase the comfort and convenience of our patients and their families.

Additional improvements to the Allegiance Health Cancer Center will include:

  • More than doubling the current space available from 4,370 to 9,960 square feet
  • Increased number of exam rooms
  • Sixteen infusion rooms with patient-controlled temperatures, capability for increased privacy, televisions with headsets for each patient as well as a garden and water feature to promote comfort and emotional well-being
  • Six private patient scheduling areas
  • Patient Navigator and consulting rooms to provide individualized attention
  • Cutting edge complementary and integrative medicine options
  • The most advanced medical and radiation technologies, for example, the Clinac®iX linear accelerator 

The project will cost $8.2 million, with $1.1 million contributed by the University of Michigan, $5.1 million from Allegiance Health and $2 million contributed from the Capital Campaign. Allegiance has also received significant donations area foundations and corporations including Alro Steel, Dawn Foods Foundation, Gerdau MacSteel, the Hancock Foundation, the Hurst Foundation and Mission of Hope Cancer Fund.
