Hospice Home Testimonials

Read what some family members have to say about their experience with Allegiance Hospice Home.

Honorable Carlene Walz Lefere

Hospice Home: Lefere“I believe hospice care is the perfect way to manage the end-of-life experience, said retired District Court Judge Carlene Walz Lefere. “It’s the kind of help you need, when you need it. Hospice care is absolutely the best thing for the patient and a huge help for the family.”

Carlene experienced hospice care for the first time in 1993, when her oldest daughter died, and again in 2004, when she lost her husband to lung cancer. “We were dealing with something that is not at all good, but hospice made everything easier. Having such excellent help gave us meaningful time together. Hospice allows everyone to focus on what matters and gives us an opportunity to say goodbye.”

John Crist

Hospice Home: CristCheryl Crist has Huntington’s disease, and since she lost her ability to walk about a year ago, she has benefited from respite care services at Allegiance Hospice Home.

“Respite care gives caregivers a hand when it’s needed,” said Cheryl’s husband, John. “I absolutely know Cheryl will be well cared for when I have to travel for business. It’s a huge relief to know the whole team is watching over her—and she loves the personal attention she gets at Hospice Home.”

Cheryl will eventually require full time care, and she and John are prepared for her move to Hospice Home. “Cheryl already feels at home there,” John said. “The staff are like family to her. Their loving help will actually allow me to be Cheryl’s husband again—instead of being her care giver. And that will be a blessing for both of us.”

Dennis Kiley

Hospice Home: KileyWhen Mabel Kiley received a diagnosis of cancer, her husband of nearly 65 years, Dennis, planned to care for her at home. But Mabel’s heart condition soon made that impossible, and the Kileys’ family physician suggested Allegiance Hospice Home.

“I was immediately impressed with the welcoming staff, the family accommodations and the beautiful surroundings,” Dennis said. “A great deal of care is taken to make it feel like a private home.”

More important to the Kiley family was that “Everyone was attentive to our needs—especially regarding Mabel’s pain. I am so pleased with how well my wife was cared for that I have recommended Hospice Home to others,” Dennis said. “The relaxing, comfortable environment makes a difficult experience more peaceful.”

Amy Tripp and Janet Rombyer

Hospice Home: TrippJackson attorney Amy Tripp specializes in elder law. So, when her 89-year-old grandmother Gail Sandford was nearing the end of life, Amy knew she wanted her to be at Allegiance Hospice Home. Amy’s mother, Janet Rombyer, had doubts that “everything would be directed toward death and dying.” But she was pleased to find “It’s not like that at all. Something about the serenity and peace of Hospice Home made Mom completely relax.”

Through Amy’s work, she has seen “too many people facing death without dignity or quality of life, but I have also experienced what a positive difference hospice care makes for individuals and their families,” she said. “My grandmother died with peace and dignity, which is exactly what we hoped for her. Hospice Home made it a wonderful experience for all of us.”

Darcy LePeak & Michele Osborn

Hospice Home: LepeakOur grandmother’s one wish was that she wouldn’t be alone when her life ended, and Allegiance Hospice Home helped us grant that wish,” said Michele Osborn about her grandmother Janet Osborn. “We have a large extended family, and Hospice Home is very family-friendly. At least one of us was with her every minute—even over night.”

“From the minute I walked in, it never felt like I was in a facility,” said granddaughter Darcy LePeak. “Hospice Home is very calming and private, the staff took care of all of us, and everyone enjoyed seeing the deer and turkeys outside. Being there brought our grandmother a lot of peace.”
