Temporary Restrictions to Visitation Policy Lifted

January 28, 2010

Jackson, Mich. — Due to a decreased number of patients presenting with flu-like symptoms, Allegiance Health has announced it will now resume its normal visitation policy. The visitation policy was temporarily changed in October 2009 to protect patients, visitors and staff from the spread of germs during the height of the H1N1 flu season.

“We have appreciated the high level of cooperation and understanding from patients and visitors as we changed our visitation policy during flu season,” said Jacalyn Liebowitz, vice president for Patient Care Continuum at Allegiance Health. “We will continue to monitor the spread of flu at our facilities and in the community as we work to protect the health of our patients and visitors.”

For the ongoing safety of patients, visitors and staff, Allegiance Health continues to encourage the practice of visiting patients only if visitors are in good health.

The community is reminded of the following helpful visitation guidelines at the hospital:

  • Short visits are best, especially if visiting with young children
  • Healthy children (age 12 and under) may visit immediate family when accompanied by an adult (some units may have additional restrictions).
  • Individuals with the following symptoms should not visit:
    • Fever
    • Cough
    • Sore throat
    • Runny or stuffy nose
    • Body aches
    • Headache
    • Chills
    • Fatigue
