Diagnostic Technology

Allegiance Health is committed to providing our community with the latest technological advancements proven to be effective. Our FDA-approved lab is staffed with experienced board-certified pathologists to provide timely and accurate test results. The following are some of the imaging technologies used to diagnose cancer:

Digital Mammography

A powerful technology for detecting breast cancer, digital mammography has replaced conventional film-based mammography at Allegiance Health. Digital technology allows the radiologist to electronically manipulate images for a more precise view of suspect areas. Another advantage is that digital mammograms can be quickly and efficiently stored on a computer and electronically sent to physician offices—speeding results and minimizing the risk of loss or damage.

64-Slice CT Scanner

This high-tech scanner produces high-speed images with superior clarity. It allows precise imaging of any region of the body in a very short time. Features include:

  • Excellent image quality with a lower dose of medicine and a lower dose of radiation than other systems
  • Fast, single-breath-hold images to enhance patient comfort
  • Breathing lights that cue children and hearing-impaired patients on when to take and hold a breath

Open MRI

Allegiance Health patients have access to the new open MRI unit, the most powerful open MRI in the region. This technology provides exceptionally accurate images, as well as a comfortable experience for patients. It is especially helpful for patients who have difficulty using standard MRI equipment, such as those with claustrophobia, the elderly, children and those who are overweight (up to 550 pounds).

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scanner

Especially useful in the evaluation of lung cancer, this imaging technology can detect sites of cancer not seen by many other imaging methods. This precision allows quicker diagnosis, leading to targeted treatment beginning sooner.
