Allegiance Health Receives Blue Distinction

November 30, 2010

Jackson, Mich. — Allegiance Health is pleased to receive designation as a Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery and for Hip and Knee Replacement from Blue Cross Blue Shield and Blue Care Network of Michigan. This designation is awarded to facilities that have demonstrated a commitment by consistently meeting the highest standards for patient care and safety.

“Blue Distinction is a designation of quality and recognizes facilities that have demonstrated expertise for specific procedures,” said Terrence Keys, executive director of Neuromusculoskeletal Services. “We are proud to receive an honor that confirms our success at achieving clinical excellence.”

The Blue Designation is based on evidence-based criteria established in collaboration with physician experts’ and medical organizations’ recommendations. The criteria include a comprehensive evaluation of structure, process and outcome measures.

For each designation, 60 points are required. Allegiance scored 77 for spine and 78 for knee and hip replacement. A team has already been meeting to review opportunities for improvement in the program criteria, which will not only ready the Allegiance Health program for re-designation in 2011, but will provide an even higher level of care to our patients.
