Board of Trustees

  • Larry SchultzBoard Chair Larry Schultz, the president of Great Lakes Industries in Jackson, has served as an Allegiance Health Trustee since 2005 and as Chair since 2008. A passionate advocate for community health improvement and clinical excellence, Schultz was named chair of the Allegiance Health Improvement Organization (HIO) when it was formed in 2000. “At Allegiance Health, our commitment to improving health and well-being runs deeply,” he said. “We continually challenge ourselves to explore more effective, innovative and compassionate ways to demonstrate this commitment to patients—with the knowledge that our future in the successful delivery of health care services depends upon it.” Schultz’s longtime service to the Jackson community includes leadership with such organizations as Junior Achievement, School-to-Work, Manufacturing Academy, Lumen Christi High School, the Jackson Area Manufacturers Association and the Chamber of Commerce.
  • Richard LaFlammeVice Chair Richard LaFlamme joined the Allegiance Health Board of Trustees in 1999. He is a partner in the law firm LaFlamme & Mauldin, PC, where he specializes in employment law and litigation. As Vice Chair, he serves as an ex-officio member of all Board Committees, and he also serves as the Board representative to the Credentials Committee. “I am truly proud of Allegiance Health and feel privileged to have been involved during its transformation from a community hospital with a mediocre reputation to a regional health system that is recognized nationally for quality and innovation, “ he said.
  • John NallyBoard Secretary/Treasurer John Nally has served as chair of the Allegiance Health Finance Committee since 2008. A Jackson resident, Nally has retired from a long and successful career in business. “My passions are my family, my faith in Christ, and physical, mental and emotional health. I look forward to helping improve the health of our community through my work on the Allegiance Health Board,” he said.
  • Nitin AmbaniNitin Ambani, MD, is a board-certified urologist who joined the Allegiance Health medical staff in 1987. Dr Ambani practices from Cascades Urology in Jackson. He is a current member of the Governance Committee, Allegiance Board Quality Committee, the Hospital Oversight Committee and the Medical Executive Committee.
  • Neeta DelaneyNeeta Delaney has more than 25 years of nonprofit executive experience. The former President and CEO of ArtServe Michigan, Delaney currently serves as Director of the Community Foreclosure Coalition for Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale Counties. “To truly improve the health and well-being of our community, we have to go beyond providing excellent care of the sick. We also need to inspire people to care for their own health,” Delaney said.
  • Doug FinchDoug Finch, the chief operating officer for Summit Health, Inc., is an advocate for promoting healthy lifestyle choices and lowering health care costs. Finch joined the Allegiance Board of Trustees in 1998 and serves on the Allegiance Health Finance Committee.
  • David HalseyDavid Halsey, MD, specializes in endocrinology and general internal medicine. Affiliated with Allegiance Health for 25 years, Dr. Halsey has served as both chief of staff and chief of internal medicine. He is the current medical director for the Allegiance Diabetes Center, the immediate past president of the Jackson County Medical Society, and is serving his 7th year on the Jackson Public School Board as president. “I am looking forward to exploring ways for Allegiance Health to serve our community effectively, with compassion and the highest standards of quality,” Dr. Halsey said.
  • Steven HogwoodSteven Hogwood is the owner and operator of eight McDonald’s restaurants in Jackson, Albion and Spring Arbor. Prior to that, he was an executive with McDonald’s Corp. Hogwood has been on the board of the Center for Family Health since 2004 and is also a Board member of Spring Arbor University and South Central Michigan Works. Hogwood supports Allegiance Health’s focus on the total health of the individual. “I am committed to helping Allegiance Health expand this concept, so we can further explore, educate and deliver the finest health care to the people of Jackson County,” he said.
  • Mohan KulkarniMohan Kulkarni, MD, FRCSC, thoracic surgery, joined the Allegiance Health Medical staff in 1996 and was named chief of staff in 2009. Dr. Kulkarni also maintains a private practice and serves on the following Allegiance Health committees: Finance, Health Improvement Organization, Hospital Oversight, Medical Executive and Physician Advisory Council. In addition, he is a member of the teaching staff at the University of Michigan Medical School and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
  • Tim LevyTim Levy, a lifelong resident of Jackson, is president and co-owner of Industrial Steel Treating. He has been a member of the Allegiance Health Hospital Clinical Quality and Service Committee since 2000, becoming the committee chair in 2002. Levy has been very involved with community organizations, including Junior Achievement United Way of Jackson and the Enterprise Group. He is currently a member of The Jackson Public Schools Board of Education.
  • Harish RawalHarish Rawal, MD, is a neurosurgeon and founder of the Great Lakes Brain and Spine Institute in Jackson, where he has maintained a top-quality neurosurgical practice for 30 years. In 1990, Dr. Rawal was named the Jackson Citizen Patriot's Citizen of the Year for his “dedication, compassion and philanthropy.” Dr. Rawal serves on the Allegiance Health Finance Committee.
  • Mike ShirkeyMike Shirkey, Immediate Past Chair, served on the Allegiance Board of Trustees for eight years and is currently a member of both the Allegiance Health Improvement Organization Committee and the Hospital Oversight Committee. Shirkey passionately supports a wellness approach to community health care.
  • Mike ShoreMike Shore, a lifelong Jackson resident and retired Consumers Energy executive, is passionate about community involvement and quality health care. He is a past president of the Board of the United Way of Jackson County and has served on the Boards of the Ella Sharp Museum and the Physicians Health Plan of South Michigan. Shore "strongly believes in supporting local organizations that help the people we know and live among," he said. His family feels a particular connection with Allegiance Health because of the "life-altering and life-saving experiences" they have had there. Shore joined the Allegiance Health Board in 2010.
  • Lynn Van WagnenLynn VanWagnen, MD, internal medicine, has been practicing medicine since 1979. A passionate supporter of improving the quality of patient care through information technology and electronic medical records, Dr. VanWagnen co-founded Jackson County Medical Record in 2005. He is president of the Board of Trustees for the Jackson Physician Alliance and is a current member of Allegiance Health’s Hospital Oversight Committee.
  • Mark ZandeMark Zande, MD, FACC, has been a cardiologist with Michigan Heart in Jackson since 1989. Before beginning his advanced medical training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, he devoted himself to a year of medical practice in an impoverished area near Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Dr. Zande is particularly interested in the treatment of congestive heart failure and preventative cardiology. He is a member of the Allegiance Board Quality Committee.
