Allegiance Earns National Award
Mar. 18, 2008
Jackson, Mich. — Allegiance Health has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Thomson Healthcare, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. The "2007 Thomson 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success" study appears in this week’s edition of a Modern Healthcare magazine.
The annual award recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in:
- clinical outcomes
- patient safety
- financial performance
- efficiency
“We appreciate this recognition from Thomson Healthcare,” said Georgia Fojtasek, president and CEO of Allegiance Health. “This award is particularly meaningful because of the significant work we have done to improve quality and safety and to deliver real value to patients across our health system. This achievement has required collaboration and teamwork among our Board, physicians, management and staff.”
Allegiance Health was also the recipient of the 100 Top Hospitals award in 1995 and 1996.
“Employers, health plans, and hospitals need to take note that we have entered a new phase in driving transformation of the healthcare industry,” said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president at the Center for Healthcare Improvement at Thomson Healthcare. “Hospitals setting new levels of patient safety are those with the highest balanced scores across quality, efficiency, and financial performance.”
According to Modern Healthcare, if all Medicare patients had received the same level of care as patients at the 100 Top Hospitals, more than 123,000 additional lives would have been saved, total expenses would have declined by $6.2 billion and the average patient stay would have decreased by more than half a day.

This national distinction comes as Allegiance Health celebrates its 90th anniversary in Jackson. Allegiance Health was one of only two large community hospitals in Michigan to receive the award.
