Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy treats cancerous cells with anti-cancer drugs. It is often used in combination with radiation treatments and surgery.

In most cases, chemotherapy works by interfering with the cancer cells’ ability to grow or reproduce. Because different groups of drugs fight cancer cells in different ways, a combination of chemotherapy drugs is often prescribed.

While chemotherapy is quite effective in treating certain cancers, the drugs affectall parts of your body, not just the cancer cells. We work hard to ensure that side effects are minimized so you can maintain a high quality of life.

Chemotherapy is one of the hematology oncology services provided at Allegiance Health’s Gayle M. Jacob Cancer Center.

You can reduce your cancer risk by getting regular medical care, living smoke-free, limiting alcohol use, avoiding excessive exposure to UV rays from the sun and tanning beds, eating fruits and veggies, maintaining a healthy weight and being physically active.
