Hospice & Palliative Care Services
Allegiance Hospice responds to the personal needs of patients facing the end of life and their families. Our services include:
In-Home Hospice Care
We provide medical services, emotional support and spiritual resources for people who are experiencing a life-limiting illness. The most common level of hospice care is called “routine home care,” where we provide care at your loved one’s residence, whether it is a private home, a hospital or a nursing facility. Residential Hospice Care
Allegiance Hospice Home is the only local residence for end-of-life care. The family-centered home provides compassionate services in a beautiful setting that supports a calming and peaceful experience. Along with amenities that offer comfort and security, the home also provides families and caregivers with special accommodations and services. Learn more about Hospice Home.
Palliative care specializes in the relief of pain, symptoms and stress of serious or chronic medical conditions. The goal is to prevent and ease suffering and to offer loved ones and their families the best possible quality of life. Palliative care is useful at any stage of an illness and can be provided at the same time as curative treatment (treatment aimed at producing a cure). Learn more about Palliative Care.
Regardless of an individual’s spiritual beliefs or religious background, we focus on providing the nurturing support that will help them through their particular circumstances and meet their personal needs. Allegiance Hospice’s non-denominational chaplain works with patients and families who choose to include spiritual care in their hospice plan by guiding them to a place of comfort during a time of change and challenge.
Allegiance Hospice’s licensed counselors specialize in helping patients, families and caregivers continue to live well and fully as they cope with issues surrounding a life-limiting illness. Counselors offer comfort and encouragement to ease anxiety, strengthen family communication, help with problem solving and identify appropriate community resources on behalf of the patient, family and caregiver.
Bereavement services provide support and comfort to those who have lost someone they love. From support groups to special events, our programs at helping individuals and families on their grief journey. Learn more about Bereavement Programs.
Home Medical Equipment & Supplies
To ensure patients are safe comfortable in their own homes, Allegiance Home Medical Equipment provides products and services that assist in the activities of daily living. We also offer the supplies needed to manage chronic illnesses, including diabetes.
Allegiance Hospice relies on volunteers to assist staff and to provide supportive care to patients, families and bereavement clients. All volunteers participate in a training program that orients them to the hospice program and helps them to find their area of interest and experience. Patient care is only one of many roles available to hospice volunteers. Other opportunities include grief support, greeting families at Hospice Home, fundraising, office support and helping with special events.
If you are interested in becoming an Allegiance Hospice volunteer, please call the volunteer coordinator at (517) 841-6982.
24-hour On-call Services
A hospice team member is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer questions over the phone or, if necessary, make a visit.
To provide relief for family members caring for a loved one, Allegiance Hospice may arrange a brief period of care for the patient at Allegiance Hospice Home or at Allegiance Health.
Complementary therapies are services that support medical treatment, such as massage, music therapy and pet therapy. Many people find these therapies to help ease the anxiety and side-effects associated with their illness and treatment.
The hospice Medicare benefit covers consulting physicians’ fees, medications used for pain and symptom control, nursing care, social services and durable medical equipment. All medications related to the patient’s terminal diagnosis are obtained from the Allegiance Health pharmacy and are included in the hospice benefit coverage.
Patient & Family Education
One of the main goals of Allegiance Hospice is to help family members and caregivers understand what to expect at their loved one’s end of life, how to make the patient more comfortable, how to correctly administer medication and when to call for additional help. We also offer spiritual care and bereavement services to those who would like additional support.
Nursing Home Programs
While many of our patients receive care in their private homes, Allegiance Hospice also has contracts to provide hospice services at most nursing facilities in our community.
