Volunteer Opportunities

Our thriving health system offers a constantly changing environment that provides countless opportunities for you to use your skills, or learn new ones. Allegiance volunteers participate in more than 50 areas of service and are an important fundraising source for special equipment and projects.

At Allegiance Health, volunteers operate the Lobby Gift Shop, one of the largest hospital-based gift shops in Michigan. Their work ranges from stocking and pricing to merchandising and cashiering. Profits from the Lobby Gift Shop are combined with proceeds from the Pink Ball, our annual gala, and Lights of Love, our holiday celebration. Nearly $200,000 is raised by the volunteers every year to benefit patient care through a gift to the Allegiance Health Foundation.

On a daily basis, the work of our volunteers can be seen and felt throughout our health system. While availability in areas varies, opportunities may include:

  • Greeting and escorting patients and families
  • Assisting in business offices
  • Driving courtesy vans and golf cart
  • Visiting patients
  • Teaching school children about good health
  • Working on special events and projects
  • Creating greeting cards for patients

Volunteering for Hospice

Volunteers are part of the Hospice team that offers supportive medical, emotional, spiritual and volunteer services to patients and families who are facing difficulties at the end of life. Volunteers receive an orientation to the Hospice program during a comprehensive training course. Summer Youth Volunteer Program 

This volunteer program is designed for high school students age 15 and up. The purpose of the program is to empower teens with leadership and communication skills and provide them with exposure to the hospital environment, while they contribute to the community. A 10-minute walk, 5 minutes on the stairs and 15 minutes of cleaning and vacuuming all count toward your goal of 30-minutes of daily exercise.
