Reduce power consumption

(HealthDay News) -- Improving power consumption is good for you and fellow earthlings everywhere.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency offers these tips to help reduce your energy usage:

  • When buying new appliances, look for the ENERGY STAR label, making sure to activate any "standby mode" function.
  • Replace your light bulbs with ENERGY STAR qualified lighting.
  • Use an ENERGY STAR programmable thermostat to adjust the temperature in your home when you aren't there.
  • Make sure your home is well insulated to lower heating and cooling costs.
